Tips For Effectively Wearing A Fanny Pack Holster

by Wade Wheeler

While there are a variety of concealed carry holsters that allow gun carriers to strap their firearm to their bodies in a concealed manner, some gun owners appreciate the simplicity of a fanny pack holster. This holster is just as it sounds. It is a pack that is attached to a belt that you wear outside of your clothing. If you've decided to buy a fanny pack holster and begin wearing it with a concealed firearm inside, there are a number of tips that you'll want to keep in mind. Here are some pointers that can help you to use this style of holster effectively.

Position It At The Front

Theoretically, you can wear a fanny pack in any orientation, meaning that the pack part of this apparatus could be at your back, sides, or front. While some people wear standard fanny packs positioned so that the pack is behind them, you don't want to take this approach with a fanny pack holster. It's always best to position this type of holster so that the pack is directly in front of your torso. Not only does this position allow you to retrieve your firearm as quickly as possible should a need arise, but it also prevents someone from grabbing the fanny pack from behind you.

Tighten The Belt

Fanny pack holsters are equipped with adjustable belts to allow you to adjust them based on your size. While the idea of a tight fanny pack might initially be undesirable for comfort reasons, you don't want the pack to be too loose. A loose pack can move around and potentially cause the firearm to not be positioned where it's easy to grab. As such, it's best to tighten the pack so that it's snug, but to stop short of tightening it to the point of it being uncomfortable.

Keep Your Hands Off It

When you start to wear a fanny pack holster, you may have a tendency to play with it or otherwise rest your hands on it. Doing so will draw peoples' attention to the holster, so it's best to get in the habit of keeping your hands off it. Walk with your hands in your pockets or simply swinging at your sides. If you're wearing a coat, ensure that it's often the fanny pack holster, as this may help to remind you to ignore the fanny pack and your firearm until the rare time that you need to retrieve the gun.
